Marjon van der Veen studied History at the University of Utrecht and the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Strasbourg. She started her working life in politics, first as personal assistant to a Member of Parliament and then as political assistant to a municipal councillor in Rotterdam. After that, she switched to the world of communications and public information, where she fulfilled several positions working on themes such as sustainable global development and the financial self-sufficiency of young people. Prior to joining the NIOD, she was communications and digital strategy project manager at the educational projects department of the Anne Frank Foundation.
